Some impressions from the PASC18 Student Volunteers

"The PASC18 Student Volunteer Program was a great chance to get a taste of the scientific community and in particular of the HPC world.
Although I was by far the youngest participant (still in high school), the other staff members and partakers proved to be collaborative and always very kind.
The event carried out smoothly and everything was always under control with minor to no mishaps also thanks to the job done by the organizing team.
Additionally we were able to attend keynote presentations and minisymposia on various topics during our free time: this allowed us to explore new and interesting subjects which range from chemistry and physics to computer science and engineering, but also to emerging domains such as finance and social sciences.
PASC18 has thus been an all-around experience during which we witnessed the latest research in various scientific fields, but where we also had the chance to meet new and interesting people from all over the world."

"Volunteering is always a great idea when it comes to brainstorming and knowledge sharing and it is so much more when you are a volunteer at PASC. A small group of students from different parts of the world, speaking different languages and having different academic qualifications come together to make a very strong team assisting over 400 participants was an incredible achievement for all of us. Every volunteer from high-schoolers to postdocs was treated with the same dignity and respect. All of us got to know each other personally and academically and the suggestions I got from experienced colleagues is surely going to help in my future work. Can't wait to be at PASC19."

"I was very lucky to experience the PASC18 Conference in Basel as a volunteer. The event was extremely well organized, as a result everything went smoothly and my job was even fun. Apart from gaining an insight on the organization side of a big conference, which might be hard to get otherwise, I was able to attend the conference for free.
The work schedules were made according to our preferences, so that we were free to attend the sessions we were most interested in. Attending talks by leading researchers on recent advances in my field was exciting for me and benefiting for my research.
Overall, volunteering at PASC18 was a valuable experience and I would recommend it to anyone, especially to junior researchers who may not be presenters themselves yet."
